Thank you BOPDHB for funding rural health services

Tēnā koe,

Rosie DaughterI just want to extend my thanks to the Whānau Apanui Community Services Medical Centre in Te Kaha.

Over Christmas my family and I were staying in Te Kaha, and my six year old daughter was stung by a bee on her foot and went into anaphylactic shock (first time full on anaphylaxis).

Luckily the medical center was five minutes away and open.

There is no cell phone coverage there and no landlines so impossible for me to call for an ambulance.

This really highlighted to me how important these DHB funded rural health services are. They save lives and take care of their community, fulfilling a range of health practices; public health, screening and acute cases and.

My daughter wasn't breathing properly by the time we got there so Rachel Thomson the GP and Dorothy Kerr and the other amazing nurses administered adrenaline and put in a line. My daughter was given antihistamine and oxygen, and we were well looked after while they monitored her for the afternoon.

This not only gave me support, but also prevented a hospital admission. The staff were kind, caring and professional and I will be forever grateful for what they did that day. It is a birthday I will not forget in a hurry.

Thankyou so much for continuing to fund and resource these community assets.

Nga Mihi,
