The Bay of Plenty District Health Board's rural health services are based from an inpatient facility in Opotiki.  This small rural hospital has four GP beds and two maternity beds.  In addition, outpatient clinics are held with visiting specialists and there is an afterhours nursing service.

In addition, the Te Kaha General Practice provides a comprehensive community service including several Outreach clinics from Maraenui to Cape Runaway.  Te Kaha is a teaching practice with links to the Bay of Plenty DHB's Medical School.

Te Whanau a Apanui Community Health provides GP and Nurse Led Clinics for a 150km section of coastline, as well as 111 emergency services after hours, at weekends and public holidays by nursing staff.
