An opportunity has arisen for highly motivated and enthusiastic professionals to join the Emergency Department team at Whakatane Hospital. This is a busy 120 bed general hospital in a rural district, situated in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, serving a population of approximately 50,000.
Whakatane has proximity to wonderful beaches and countryside for hunting and fishing and is within a few hours drive of snow fields for skiing. These posts would suit those who are keen to develop both their professional standing and the emergency medical service locally, in addition to experiencing a wonderful lifestyle.
The posts are a full shift pattern attracting a highly competitive salary and conditions that reflect the shift pattern of the work and the non clinical work undertaken in addition to the clinical responsibilities. The posts are 40 hours per week on average inclusive of the non clinical workload. The successful applicants will be expected to participate in teaching of junior house surgeons and be involved in local quality initiatives. Candidates who, for personal reasons, are unable to work full time may apply for one of these posts on a part time basis.
Applicants should possess current NZ Medical Council registration, or be eligible for NZ Medical Council registration and be 3 years post medical school graduation with prior experience in emergency medicine and hold certification in resuscitation skills. A post- graduate qualification is preferable but not essential. Oversight is by a vocationally registered emergency medicine specialist.
